Can I use X-Win32 to connect to Blackhole?
Why yes you can. Right now we are working on having
defaults set for the computers in the CS Department labs so you can connect
to blackhole much the same way you can to either abel or cain. For
now if you want to connect to bring up an X-Terminal you will have to add
the settings manually. If the computer you are using is not
setup for connecting to blackhole, follow these steps to set it up manually.
First, start up X-Win32 and right-click on the top title
bar, the part that actually says "X-Win32" on it. Then select "X-Win Utility"
and the following window should pop up:
The next step will be to select "Edit Sessions" in the X-Win
Utility window. Once the next window pops up, you can go ahead and start setting
the configurations to the same as the ones below. At first it doesn't look the
same, but after you change "Connect Mode" and "XDMCP Mode" the rest of the
screen should look right.
Finally you are ready to connect to blackhole. Again you
need to right-click on the title bar at the top, this time selecting
Sessions -> blackhole.cs.uwec.edu and you should get the
following login prompt:
Just enter your username and password. Note that the password
prompt doesn't show any charecters to mark what you've typed. Lastly you
can hit enter to log in. When you want to end your session, just click on
the menu and select "Logout".
