How do I change my password?

First, it is necessary to realize that you don't have just one password on Blackhole. In fact you have 2 passwords to keep track of. One is for your login (NIS) password, and the other is for Samba (SMB). The login password should be self explanatory, but you might not be familiar with Samba. Samba is the "program" that Blackhole uses to allow people to connect to their file shares. To connect to your space on the server, you must provide a username and password. The set of credentials you use for this is your Samba account.

Now after noting all of this, you must realize you have to change your password using two different commands. To change your NIS password login on Blackhole and type passwd at the prompt. You will be asked to enter your old password, as well as whatever you want to change it to twice.

To change your SMB password you do much the same thing. First login to Blackhole, then you need to enter the command smbpasswd.

If you ever forget your password, or things get really messed up, you can send an email to the admin.
